|What's your plan, man? <<|
I have to confess that no one has asked me this, so it's technically not a Frequently Asked Question". Well, that's not entirely true. I ask myself often - "What is my motivation, here? What am I creating? What vision do I have as an outcome of all this?". Putting this on the website provides a bit of accountability.
The fact is, I'm not doing this to get a record deal or to become a celebrity. I want to make a positive difference in the world, to inspire people to reach higher and chase their dreams (which are given to them for a purpose), overcome their shackles of fear and self-doubt and in so doing, build an independent music career that can support me in raising a family and in making more music and movies. I'm very proud of what I've done with next to no budget, and I have a lot to share with the world. If it turns out that I have a ton of success, I'll become an active philanthropist. Also a lifelong dream.
I believe the world is hungry for inspiration, for someone to finally speak the truth. I do the best I can, and I'm not at all interested in trading my ability to speak my truth for the ability to reach more people. I'd rather a few people heard the real deal, than lots of people hearing a carefully sculpted version designed to maximize "shareholder profit."
I also believe the internet holds tremendous promise both for political action as well as launching and maintaining an independent music career. I've been a webhead for a decade, and have worked behind the scenes at the GRAMMY Awards, the Emmy's, and they don't really have a lot of luster or appeal to me. I have a feeling that my music, message and approach is too far out of their box, anyway. That's all right. I just want to make a decent living doing what I love to do and put a little love into people's lives.
